In the product area Energy Technology, we deal with current and future issues concerning mobile and decentralized provision and storage of electrical energy, with thermal management in the automotive industry and with the production of synthetic (bio)fuels. The technology is based on microstructured plate heat exchangers, which can be used as chemical reactors by coating them with catalysts. The development work covers the entire technology chain in the fields of system design, process simulation, catalyst development, durability tests, reactor design, development of cost-effective manufacturing technologies, system control, system integration and testing. Apart from the development of individual components and complete reformer systems for hydrogen production from conventional and renewable fuels, the research focuses on the areas of fuel processing, liquid hydrogen technology, exhaust gas purification, power to gas, heat and cooling management, energy storage and biofuel synthesis.
