The German Confederation of Skilled Crafts (ZDH) represents the entire scope of non-industrial trades and crafts in Germany. These comprise 151 occupations in seven sub-sectors: the building and interior finishing trades, the electrical and metal working trades, the woodcrafts and plastic trades, the clothing, textiles and leather crafts and trades, the food crafts and trades, the health and body care trades including the chemical and cleaning sector, and the graphic and design trades.
With 967,000 businesses, 4.8 million employees, 480,000 apprentices, and an annual turnover of 511 Million Euro in 2008, Skilled Crafts form the core of the German SME segment. Due to a profound vocational education and training and further education leading to the qualification of Master Craftsman level and beyond, German craftsmen are qualified specialists when it comes to individual, sustainable products and solutions. German craftsmen are highly innovative and creative.
