The Berlin University Alliance is the cluster of excellence comprising the 4 Berlin universities: FU, HU, TU, Charité. Inside its objective 3 "Advancing Research Quality and Value", it develops strategies to foster open science practices. The OpenMake project is part of this mission aiming to create a center of competence for open source hardware development within the BUA.
An industrial and trans-disciplinary pendant of this work is being conducted by the partnering team from TU Berlin at the Chair of Quality Science in the EU project LAUDS Factories, aiming to create a new offering for facilitating businesses and creatives in Europe to engage in open and distributed production.
Activities: training engineers and researchers, guiding open source hardware documentation, understanding and fostering collaborative work, technology transfer, professionalisation of OSH development, and working towards sustainable development goals.
