Founded in 1831 by the scholar Karl Karmarsch, the “Higher Trade School of Hannover” started with only 64 students. Today, almost 30,000 students study and conduct research at Leibniz Universität Hannover in the natural sciences, engineering, humanities, social sciences, law and economics. Nine faculties with 87 degree courses make Leibniz Universität Hannover one of the largest higher education institutions in Lower Saxony. Approximately 4,000 students come from abroad. Visiting scholars from abroad enrich research and teaching, contributing to the internationalisation of the courses on offer. Our key research areas biomedical research and technology, quantum optics and gravitational physics, production technology and scientific reflection exhibit excellent internationally recognized research achievements, strong promotion of young scientists and successful recruitment of coordinated collaborative projects with high scientific and social relevance.
