Product description

Desktop Activity Mining is a new approach developed at the AWS Institute to capture and document work processes. The core of the approach is to digitally capture the screen actions of all employees involved in the process, consolidate them and combine them into a business process. Mechanisms from data and process mining are used. Using a background recording tool, the relevant process actions of the employees, such as text input, mouse clicks or program calls, are recorded in detail in an anonymous way in order to obtain process mining algorithms for an extensive representation of the real working process.
In contrast to classic process mining approaches, in which only transaction data from IT systems is used to describe a business process, desktop activity mining is used at the direct working level of the employees. In this way, actions are also recorded that are process-relevant but cannot be documented by existing IT systems, such as writing an e-mail. Desktop Activity Mining is thus the first approach of the processes holistically, depicted at the actual working level of the employees. This is especially important for process automation with Robotic Process Automation (RPA), where work processes are carried out by software robots. Desktop Activity Mining delivers the consolidated work processes in a level of detail required for configuring these software robots, enabling an otherwise manual and time-consuming configuration process to be automated, making it more efficient and cost-effective.
