Product description

Complex microcomponents are manufactured for a variety of applications .The production of microcomponents is economically efficient especially in mass fabrication of large numbers, as the initial expense involved in making the tools and designing the process resources is offset by extremely low unit costs. However, production process development implies considerable challenges to manufacturers. Microcomponents impose a variety of requirements upon the materials used. For this purpose, polymers, ceramic materials or plastics are processed for different applications. Another important aspect is precise manufacturing of the parts, as minimal deviations from the nominal dimensions could greatly impair functionality. Specialized know-how in production is needed therefore especially in calculating thermal shrinkage, tool gassing, and materials composition. The KIT develops and tests tools and process lines for micro-injection molding to achieve more precise fabrication than before. The scientists are able to mold and reproduce faithfully miniature structures down to less than 100 µm. The IAM has special know-how in variothermal tempering, tool evacuation, and high-precision tool design. The microcomponents produced in this way from polymers have practically 100% accuracy in detail, while their surface quality is determined chiefly by the mold inserts used. If application requires the use of metals or ceramics, micropowder injection molding is the technique to employ. From the preparation of feedstock to injection molding to binder removal and to sintering, the required tools are designed for the production of complex components with high load bearing capacity.

You can get an overview of this technology at KIT stand. Detailed information can be exchanged individually in contact with the responsible scientific employees of KIT after the industry fair.
