eH13 our car from the 2013 season and also the most successful race car in the history of HorsePower Hannover
We developed the basic concept of the eH13 with our minds set on one major principal: evolution. In order to send a reliable and competitive car to the grid, we leaned heavily on the experiences we had made with the previous vehicle. As in earlier years, we used a tubular steel frame as the basic structural component, combined with two electric engines for the rear wheel drive, which generate a maximum of 2 x 41 kW and boost the 227 kg lightweight.
Every year, we strive towards making the car lighter and work towards finding more efficient alternatives for every part. We started out using KW40 inverters, but have since switched to KW26 models. Lower maximum currents are being equalized by an optimized cooling concept, so that eH13 does not lack dynamics of vehicle movement despite the changed components.
Furthermore, it has become a tradition that we produce some of our magnesium castings ourselves. Prime examples here are the wheel hubs and gearbox housings. Magnesium impresses with an extremely high firmness at a very low weight. With the support of the Institute of Material Science, students are able to follow the entire process from CAD to the finalized component and thus gain important experiences in this field.
After a very successful 2013 season with a seventh place in Hockenheim and coming in second in Spain, we can truthfully say that our concept for eH13 was a great one.
