Product description

The efficient testing of autonomous systems, such as autonomous driving functions, represents a great challenge. Virtual tests offer a cost-effective possibility to test autonomous systems safely, early and during development. However, they are said to have a high discrepancy to reality.
In order to fill in the gap between simulation and real-life testing, the FZI researches and evaluates methods in a practical way for the semi-virtual embedding of humans and the system under test in joint test areas. Within software and vehicle-in-the-loop testing frameworks, highly automated driving functions can thus be tested in the context of realistic pedestrian behaviour without endangering persons or dispensing with realistic physical behaviour.
Thus, simulation models are gradually replaced by real world behaviour recorded by reference sensors. This makes it possible to test the autonomous system in a real world environment, but to stimulate it with partial, virtual elements and their effects on the system.
