Planetary exploration is one of the greatest challenges of robotics due to significant delay and extreme conditions. In order to ensure that all actions are safe, they are first tested and transmitted on earth.
In the research project “intelliRISK” the FZI develops a system, which enables robots to independently and actively estimate internal and external risks. In planetary exploration missions, robots are thus supposed to autonomously make risk-conscious decisions. Through a continuous condition monitoring and self-perception of the system, the current situation is evaluated. This intelligent risk assessment enables a robust, autonomous robot behaviour.
