Product description

Under the project name "LoRaLight", a modular IoT intralogistics assistance system is being developed at WSN Technologies AG in Braunschweig. In near future, it will support logistical staff in order picking. The development is carried out in collaboration with the Bremen Institute for Production and Logistics (BIBA) as logistics application of the new LoRa ™ radio standard and is funded by the BMWi through the Central Innovation Program for SMEs (ZIM).
The cooperation partners BIBA and WSN are developing the IoT assistance system with the premise of fast installation and intelligent process monitoring. For this purpose, a combination of pick-by-light and put-to-light techniques is used in conjunction with automatic object recognition. Both access to the shelf and put in box on the picking trolley are detected and potential picking errors or are being indicated. This allows immediate on-site correction and paves the way to zero-error picking. The entire system can be quickly installed and configured in the sense of plug-and-use. For example, access control on the shelf uses a particularly low-power, long-range wireless technology (LoRa ™ LPWAN), which enables maintenance-free battery operation over several years and makes cabling superfluous.
The operators wear a type of smartwatch with large-format E-ink display. Hence, the information required for a pick can be read from almost any viewing angle. There is a pick-by-light module on each shelf which, in addition to a signal light, also contains sensors for access detection. The removed object is identified on the picking trolley and, if the feedback is positive, lights indicate the intended storage location or picking container. As a result, several picking orders can be processed in parallel. The storage of objects is also monitored sensor-based.
