Product description

Pollutant emissions from industrial incinerators are subject to strict legal regulations. KIT's Institute for Technical Chemistry and Institute for Applied Computer Science have developed innovative camera-based methods for process control, optimization of combustion processes, enhancement of combustion efficiencies, and reduction of pollutant formation. At flue gas temperatures above 200°C, chlorinated organic compounds e.g., dioxins/furans (PCDD/F), develop in the chloride and carbon-containing slag deposits. At temperatures below 200°C, the PCDD/F are adsorptively deposited on activated carbon. The first measurement method determines and evaluates the slag deposit carbon concentrations by means of video-optical measurements. The results obtained can be used for controlling vessel or filter cleaning systems or for carbon metering during flue gas treatment. The second measuring method serves to optimize flue gas burnout. Incomplete burnouts, low combustion intensities, and excessive flame development in the flue gas stream can be detected by means of video recordings. These parameters can be used for rapid control of local demand-oriented secondary air supply ensuring optimum flue gas burnouts. The third measurement method serves to control fixed-bed combustion and flue gas burnout by means of an optimized supply of primary and secondary air into the process and is based on fixed-bed and flue gas radiation data (e.g. of carbon dioxide) provided by an infrared camera. Automatic image evaluation ensures that areas of fuel drying and carbon conversion are assessed online and are subsequently optimized with regard to control. The fourth measurement method serves to video-monitor the end of the combustion bed on the grid.
