Product description

Reactive resins are used in a large number of applications, such as coatings, electronics or adhesives. In addition, they are an important component in the production of fiber composites. The Institute for Technical Chemistry (ITC-CPV) of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology has developed a versatile concept for producing catalysts on the basis of reactive resins. In this process, small quantities of metal compounds are used as initiators for curing epoxy resins. In the resultant materials, these metal compounds represent the components with catalytic action. In this way, a large number of catalysts for very different applications can be produced in a single-stage process, which saves time and expense. Important catalytic properties, such as activity, selectivity, surface quality or stability, can be influenced and controlled specifically by way of a number of parameters. Several catalyst systems, especially epoxy resins doped with molybdenum, palladium, and rhodium, have already been tested successfully in processes of technical significance, such as oxidation, hydrogenation, hydroformylation, and carbon-carbon coupling reactions. Many of these catalysts have been found to have excellent long-time activities extending at least over several months. This allows them to be used in continuous processes. In addition, it is also possible to combine various metals in one resin matrix and thus achieve synergistic effects and further expand the spectrum of application of catalysts. The Institute for Technical Chemistry is looking for partners for targeted advanced development of the catalyst systems up to the stage of application.

You can get an overview of this technology at KIT stand. Detailed information can be exchanged individually in contact with the responsible scientific employees of KIT after the industry fair.
