Product description

Shown is a simplified, cost-effective testing machine that can combine mechanical material testing with different measurement techniques. On the basis of a graphical programming language in the field of automation and measurement technology (LabVIEW), a possibility was realized to combine mechanical loads with any other measuring techniques to carry out rapid functional tests.
A simplified test shows the possibilities of sensory adhesive layers in wood composites whose change in electrical conductivity indicates relevant deformations in the material.

These multifunctional wood adhesives are manufactured in the research group by suspending conductive fillers into commercial and modified adhesives. Among other things, the relevant procedural influences on the production of a reproducible adhesive layer and its properties as a sensor are investigated.
The products are to be used to introduce sensitive layers into composite materials and to signal critical parameters such as deformation, moisture and adhesion failure. In particular, wooden structures under unclear loads and in security-relevant applications should become safer in the future. Further applications in glued structures of non-conductive materials are conceivable and are under development.
