Product description

This project aims to enhance soil acidity management on agricultural farms in the federal state of Brandenburg (Germany). Mobile proximal soil sensors enable fast and cost-effective assessments of soil properties in high resolution. Within the scope of this project, methods for processing sensor data and derivation of fertiliser recommendations are developed by taking the specific soil conditions in Brandenburg into account. As a result, practicable solutions for precision liming and spreading technology for fertilisation applications are provided. Furthermore, training courses for precision pH management are offered.

To determine essential soil properties different sensor systems are used. Soil texture, soil pH and soil organic matter is measured with different proximal sensors that are evaluated concerning their on-field performance and precision. One these sensors is the Optic Mapper which operates with a spectrometer to measure organic matter. As a result, the three most important parameters for precision farming: (i) soil texture, (ii) soil pH and (iii) soil organic matter are supposed to be determined in a sensor-based overall system. User-friendly programs for accurate calculation of lime application maps and for easy programming of the lime spreading device are to be developed. This will facilitate the introduction of precision liming to agricultural farms in Brandenburg
