In the project “Process monitoring in additive manufacturing” (ProMoAM), BAM is investigating the manufacturing of metal components. For example, are pores or cracks developing? And, if there are quality defects, what is causing them and how can they be avoided? To determine causation, the project team is developing methods to monitor and assess the manufacturing process. One of the methods used is thermography. The characteristics of additively manufactured (“AM”) components are particularly dependent on the temperature distribution during the manufacturing process. Thermography, which allows the spatial and chronological recording of temperature distribution, is especially suitable for monitoring the AM process.
