There is enormous interest in using additive manufacturing (AM) for the production and repair of gas turbines. In collaboration with Siemens AG, Power and Gas, BAM is investigating the quality of AM lattice structures intended for such turbines using computed tomography. Computed tomography helps to quickly control the dimensions of 3D products, estimate defects and displacements in the structure and establish their size and number. This method is also interesting for medical purposes, such as ensuring the quality of 3D printed jaw implants.
