Machine vision systems guided by robots and gantry systems provide a flexible and cost effective solution to meet the increasing demands of a modern production in terms of 100% quality control. Cameras and illuminations for use on robot heads are exposed to extreme strains. Components have to withstand high accelerations and strong vibrations and to be as light and compact as possible. RIITTA (Robot Inspector for Integrity Analysis) was developed by Asentics especially for use with robots. The camera head is a compact unit that combines all necessary components such as camera, lens, LED lighting and control electronics in one special housing. The ultra-lightweight yet rugged composite housing offers protection against dust and splash water. Special properties of the composite materials used in conjunction with an optimum design avoid unnecessary moments of inertia, which play a central role, especially in robot applications. Furthermore, significant performance gains can be obtained, or while maintaining the same performance level high costs can be saved. Due to the modular design, the individual components, such as various types of cameras and illuminations, can be replaced and combined easily. Thus, RIITTA can be adapted to application-specific inspection tasks flexibly and easily. Robotic rated cables and connectors ensure that applications operate safely even during continuous operation.
