Product description

Structured organometal layers with high steric order play an increasingly more important role in the semiconductor industry. Because of their excellent electrical and dielectric properties they are used in solar cells, light emitting diodes, photodetectors, transistors, and microchips.A new process allows such functioning units to be produced on the basis of organometal layers on large surfaces. For this purpose, a substrate entirely or partly consisting of an oxidizable metal is treated with thiolene or disulfides. The metal atoms are bonded to the thiolene or disulfides, thus creating the organometal layer on the substrate at the desired spots. The coating thickness is defined by the quantities of oxidizable metal and of thiolene and disulfides, respectively. Anisotropic growth allows high aspect ratios to be achieved. These organometal layers are characterized by a high degree of order and anisotropy without there being grain boundaries or mismatch to the substrate. The possibility to structure details in the nm-range on surfaces of cm size makes these organometal layers usable in lithographic applications for the production of photonic crystals or materials with a photonic band gap. Laterally structured layers can be used as metal insulators or metal-semiconductor structures in microelectronics or nano-electronics.
