Since 1992 Juergen has been working on mobile communication, in system design, product management and business development, always with strong linkage to standardisation, and initially starting with 2G and subsequently driving 3G, 4G and 5G requirements within 3GPP standardisation. Since 2001 Juergen is fully dedicated to standardisation work.
Juergen helped starting up work on GPRS for 2G mid of the nineties. Mid of the 2000s he initiated work on M2M in 3GPP hereby widening the horizon of 3GPP and eventually laying the cornerstones for 3GPP to support IoT.
Juergen has helped and driven the introduction of requirements of first responder networks / Public Safety communication into 3GPP. Subsequently he guided the International Railway Union to deduce their requirements for their new 5G/LTE based communication system (FRMCS) and drove the railway requirements work in 3GPP.
Juergen is working at Nokia, he started his career with Alcatel in 1992, joined Siemens Mobile Networks in 2001, that got merged with Nokia Networks in 2007.
