Tobias Seidl studied biomimetics with Werner Nachtigall in Saarbrücken working on the dry attachment system of jumping spiders including a short stay at BMW group working on biomimetic automotive topics. In the following, he wrote his dissertation on the navigational system of desert ants with Rüdiger Wehner both in Zürich and in Tunisia and received an invitation as a fellow from the European Space Agency to work on biomimetic applications in the Netherlands. From 2010 onwards, he started up the biomimetics degree of the school and since 2012 the Westphalian Institute for Biomimetics, both situated at the Bocholt campus.
