Fumihiko Kimura is a professor emeritus, the University of Tokyo. He was a research associate at the Electrotechnical Laboratory of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry from 1974 to 1979. He then moved to the University of Tokyo, and had been a professor in the department of precision machinery engineering until 2009, and retired. He is one of the pioneers in the field of solid modeling and CAD/CAM research. His current research interest includes digital engineering, life cycle engineering and smart manufacturing. He had been involved in the activities of ISO/TC184/SC4, and is a national representative of ISO/TC184. He is now a co-convenor of ISO/TC184-IEC/TC65 JWG21, and a convenor of ISO/TC184/SC5/WG10. He is a member of Science Council of Japan, a fellow emeritus of CIRP. He graduated from the department of aeronautics, the University of Tokyo in 1968, and received a Dr. Eng. degree in aeronautics from the University of Tokyo in 1974.
