Beschreibung

Industry 4.0 is transforming manufacturing operations. But it will also transform how humans work, operate, and interact within these operations. With increasing levels of digitalization in manufacturing, workers’ roles will change, requiring them to add new skill sets; act more with data and less with their physical senses; and interact with machines in new ways. Implementing Industry 4.0 using industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) technologies require understanding today’s factories, their diverse inhabitants, and the obstacles to further digitization. This presentation draws from a recently completed six-month project with 145 manufacturing workers and leaders from a range of manufacturing organizations. It will

  1. identify specific pain points that motivate consideration of smart technologies,
  2. rank the obstacles to change for manufacturing workers and leaders,
  3. examine how workers’ understanding of Industry 4.0 shapes their expectations for the future.
