Water injection technology (WIT) allows the production of complex hollow bodies by means of injection molding. The plastic granulate is heated, shaped and then exposed to high water pressure. According to researchers at the TU Chemnitz and the industrial partner PME fluidtec, only the outer wall of the workpiece is preserved. The removed mass can be reused in the next process step. WIT already made it possible to reduce the weight of a clutch pedal from 960 to 220 grams.
Many industrial sectors see lightweight construction as one of the future key technologies. This was also demonstrated by the popularity of the first l ightweight construction summit at HANNOVER MESSE 2019. More than 350 decision-makers from industry, politics and research accepted the invitation of the organizer: the German Federal Ministry of Economics.
