The KOLLMORGEN Corporation dates back to 1911, when Dr. Friedrich Kollmorgen from Germany patented his periscope design with two telescopes in New York. Over the years, the company has been involved in a series of mergers with like-minded visionaries that have focused on finding solutions to problems by developing precision products. This has expanded the company's expertise from the optical field to also embrace motor design. Today, KOLLMORGEN is one of the leading suppliers of integrated automation and drive systems and associated components for mechanical engineers all over the world. KOLLMORGEN Europe has now presented its new, second generation of drives for the mechanical engineering of the future at a partner event in the Czech city of Brno.

KOLLMORGEN is keen to use this new generation of drives, in the shape of AKD2G servo drives and AKM2G servo motors, to unlock fresh opportunities in mechanical engineering. The company sees the enhanced power density of the second generation as a major advantage. Higher torque in a smaller space means the motors can also be smaller, which in turn has a positive impact on the footprint of the whole machine. Since July 2019, AKM2G servo motors have also been joined by new low-voltage versions designed for operation with any voltage from 24 to 105 V DC. These features make the drives ideal for use in robotics, which is opening up an ever-increasing number of applications that previously had little or no involvement with this fully automated technology.
