Every four years, the Newcast trade fair presents the latest innovations in casting technology. This year, Feinguss Blank from Riedlingen in Baden-Württemberg won the Newcast Award for the best lightweight construction solution. The company had presented a wheel carrier with a considerably improved geometry; engineers managed to reduce component weight by 35%. They used a digital twin or simulation to digitally test different variants and select the best one. After deciding on the best model, they quickly produced first hand samples and prototypes using 3D printing, thus eliminating the need for expensive and time-consuming production of suitable tools. This allowed them to save development time and costs as well as considerably reduce time to market.

Feinguss Blank offers its customers the Digital Twin service package , which includes material simulation, FEM calculation (finite element method) for estimating the later loads, casting and solidification simulation as well as topology optimization for the desired components.
