On 16 October, the 5th German Startup Monitor (GSM) was presented in Berlin in the presence of German minister of economy Brigitte Zypries.
The 5th GSM – which represents 1,837 startups, 4,245 founders and 19,913 employees – is the most representative study of startups in Germany. The GSM creates transparency for the German startup ecosystem and generates catalysts for the future.
As in 2016, the study’s data set is diverse: even though Berlin remains the hub of the German startup scene, Germany’s entire startup ecosystem is maturing and a trend towards more regional ecosystems is emerging. Furthermore, the proportion of women founders increased for the third time in a row to 14.6 percent.
