As Europe's largest manufacturer of metallic bipolar plates, Dana can draw on more than two decades of experience in the development and manufacture of bipolar plates. The hydrogen experts from Neu-Ulm are therefore bringing a wide range of different bipolar plate technologies to HANNOVER MESSE 2024: metallic bipolar plates and graphite composite plates for mobile and stationary fuel cell stacks, metallic bipolar plates for hydrogen electrolyzers and special bipolar plates for redox flow batteries (RFB).

In particular, demand for high-performance bipolar plates for proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers has recently increased. Dana's new plate designs are in prototype testing with leading manufacturers of electrolyzers and electrolysis stacks. Commercial production is in preparation. The production of metallic bipolar plates for fuel cell stacks in Neu-Ulm, on the other hand, has been running since October 2023. After the ramp-up this year, the full production volume of eight million bipolar plates is planned for 2025. This will give Dana the largest production line for metallic bipolar plates in Europe.

All of this will be presented in Hall 13 at HANNOVER MESSE. This is not only where the majority of hydrogen and fuel cell exhibitors will be gathered, but also where the exclusive Hydrogen and Fuel Cells EUROPE community can be found. At its own stand (E18), Dana will be showing not only bipolar plates, but also an impressive time-lapse documentation of the production conversion in Neu-Ulm. In just one year, an existing logistics building with an area of 4,000 square meters was converted for the production of metallic bipolar plates. A good starting point for detailed discussions at the trade fair with the hydrogen experts from Dana's application technology and sales departments.
