Beckhoff Automation, based in Verl in Germany's East Westphalia region, is one of the world's leading technology companies in the field of automation technology for industrial manufacturing, the processing industry, the energy industry, the entertainment industry and building automation.

High-voltage measurement is an important topic in the field of electric mobility, among others. The ELM3002-0205 EtherCAT measurement terminal from Beckhoff, which is ideally suited for this application with a measuring range of up to plus/minus 1,200 volts, has now been supplemented by the two new terminals ELM3002-0305 and ELM3002-0405, which can measure a millivolt voltage drop, for example at shunt resistors, to determine the current.

The new ELM3002-0305/0405 provides an accurate millivolt measurement at a high voltage level of up to 1,000 volts. Seven voltage measurement ranges from plus/minus five volts to plus/minus 60 millivolts are supported, suitable for single-cell measurement and shunts. Both EtherCAT measurement terminals offer a voltage range of plus/minus 2.5 and plus/minus five volts, 24-bit resolution and 50 kSps (kilosamples per second) per channel, as well as plus/minus 200 ppm (parts per million) accuracy. The -0305 version has two electrically isolated analog input channels for millivolt measurement in two different current branches. By contrast, the -0405 version can measure voltages of up to plus/minus 1,200 volts via channel one and the millivolt voltage drop across the shunt resistor via channel two.
