A new chassis makes cars 50% lighter

The concept was presented by the company Gordon Murray Design in Surrey, UK. The design, called iStream Superlight, uses aluminum tubes and recycled honeycomb carbon composite panels to stabilize the chassis. It apparently weighs only half as much as a comparable steel construction. In addition to lower energy consumption, Murray also mentions the following benefits: more safety, easier handling, greater rust resistance, and last but not least, the flexibility of the design, which can be used for a wide range of vehicle types and sizes.
Gordon Murray also designed a car seat using the same materials as for the chassis. It should weigh about 30% less than a conventional seat and be suitable for a wide variety of needs and purposes. According to the manufacturer, it could also be used in trains or aircraft.
