The AWS IoT Analytics service, part of Amazon's IoT portfolio, can collect, filter and securely store data from multiple sources and devices in a single database. Users can then use the service to read out and comprehensively analyze information obtained in this way via database queries – such as for the purpose of predictive maintenance, i.e. to identify and solve technical problems in advance.
With its AWS IoT cloud service, Amazon has been involved in products related to the Internet of Things since late 2015. The cloud service supports other Amazon services such as AWS Lambda, Amazon API Gateway, Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon Kinesis, Amazon S3 or Amazon Redshift and merges them into an IoT application. The specially adapted operating system Amazon FreeRTOS plays important role in Amazon's IoT offering. With the comprehensive offer from a single source, the company is pursuing a different strategy than many of its competitors: Microsoft, for example, is cooperating with Dell and VMWare for a comprehensive IoT offering. In doing so, each of the three companies contributes one of the three components.
