Biogas plants convert organic material into methane-containing biogas. Not only plant and animal residues are used as raw materials, but also residues from the food industry. Microorganisms decompose the biomass in the fermenter to methane-containing gas. The resulting raw biogas can be fed into the combined heat and power plant (CHP) after appropriate desulphurization. Or it is cleaned of CO2 and other impurities in a further processing step and fed into the natural gas grid, for example, as processed biomethane.

Scope for adaptation down to the smallest details

However, biogas applications place special demands on compressor technology. For the treatment and feeding of biogas, the process gas specialist AERZEN has therefore developed an application-specific portfolio of standardized solutions that is designed to confidently overcome the challenges typical of the industry. The innovative screw compressors are characterised by ATEX-compliant engineering and are designed for continuous operation with high discharge pressures. High availability and quality should guarantee maximum process reliability. Extensive modification options also offer scope for adaptation down to the smallest details.

Green Gas

Whether it is biomethane production, feeding into kilometer-long supply networks or generating inlet pressure for combined heat and power plants: AERZEN offers a customized portfolio of blowers and compressors specially developed for the biogas market, to suit the various suction and discharge pressures and processes required. These include, among others, the oil-injected screw compressors of the VMX and VMY series. According to AERZEN, the assemblies, designed for 24-hour operation, are characterized by a high degree of energy efficiency, plant availability and ease of maintenance, as well as a wide range of types and many modification options. The biogas compressors are based on a concept that clearly separates the interior of the assembly from its environment, making them technically gas-tight.

VMX biogas compressor: a wide range of performance options

The VMX series biogas compressor is an oil-injected screw compressor available in five sizes for volume flows of up to 2,500 cubic meters per hour and 15 bar overpressure. The positive displacement machines are equipped with a direct drive and impress with their robustness and energy efficiency in tough everyday use. All sizes are designed for frequency converter operation. According to the manufacturer, the wide range of models, the modular design and the extensive modification options ensure a particularly wide range of applications.

VMY biogas compressor: discharge pressures up to 25 bar overpressure

The oil-injected biogas compressors in the VMY series enable a discharge pressure of up to 25 bar overpressure and allow an intake pressure of up to 8 bar overpressure. They are designed for volume flows of up to 6,300 cubic meters per hour and are available in three sizes. The rotors of the VMY compressors work without control gears. This ensures contact-free operation and optimum efficiency. The units are insensitive to fluctuating process parameters and gas compositions and are equipped with a hydraulically actuated control slide (slide control) for stepless control of the volume flow. Like the VMX series compressors, the VMY screw compressors are modular and offer a wide range of different types and modification options.
