IDS Imaging Development Systems GmbH has expanded its Ensenso-X-3D camera system offering to include a new model with the Sony IMX264 CMOS sensor. In the future, it will ensure a resolution of 5 megapixels. Compared with standard 1.3 MP cameras, it also features a 20% larger field of view, a 35% higher lateral resolution and 30% less noise. Set to reap the most benefits are robot-based production in modern Industry 4.0 environments and automation of logistics processes, where precise detection of the surroundings is crucial. An optimized projection module will also enable the recognition of low-contrast or reflective surfaces. According to the manufacturer, the previous z-precision of 0.43 mm has been improved to 0.2 mm. A euro palette with products 1 m in height can be fully recognized at a distance of 1.25 m instead of 1.5 m.

Cobots especially rely on the best possible supply of image data from their environment, processed by systems in real-time to be able to prevent collisions with human staff, for example, and to enable optimal positioning. Depending on the construction type, multiple camera systems can be used simultaneously – as with the sawyer model by Hahn Robotics , for example.
