The Baden-Württemberg Police is now launching a pilot project for battery-supported fast charging of electric vehicles at the Pforzheim highway police station. The project utilizes the ChargePost fast-charging system from ADS-TEC Energy in Nürtingen.
“Baden-Württemberg is one of the safest states. We’re doing a lot to ensure that: We’re in the midst of the largest recruitment drive in the history of the Baden-Württemberg Police, and now we’re giving our police force a technological boost,” explained Baden-Württemberg’s Interior Minister Thomas Strobl at the project launch, adding: “We’re investing in state-of-the-art police technology and have the courage to try new things. That’s why I’m very pleased that we’re now also testing a fast-charging station with a battery buffer. What makes this special is that the integrated buffer storage allows vehicles to charge at high power even at low-voltage grid connections. Two vehicles can be charged simultaneously at the charging station, so we can test two electric vehicles on our highways at once. This continues our journey toward electric mobility within the police force, which we embarked on about 15 years ago. Of the approximately 5,400 police vehicles, around 630 are already electric, which is about twelve percent. The Pforzheim Traffic Police Department is now putting the charging station and the electric vehicles through their paces. My thanks go to everyone involved in this project. With this, we are setting the course for sustainable police work.”
“Charging infrastructure is part of critical infrastructure—especially where emergency vehicles must be available around the clock,” said Thomas Speidel, CEO of ADS-TEC Energy. “Our systems are developed and manufactured in Germany and meet high standards for cybersecurity, operational safety, and resilience. With our many years of experience in battery-based fast charging, we are the right partner for demanding applications in the public sector. We greatly value our collaboration with the Baden-Württemberg Police and are proud to support the Pforzheim Highway Patrol in their daily operations.”
The Pforzheim Highway Patrol oversees one of Germany’s busiest highway sections. Consequently, the demands on the availability and charging speed of the emergency vehicles are extremely high. The battery-powered fast-charging system from ADS-TEC Energy enables ultra-fast charging even at locations with limited grid connection capacity and can therefore be installed very easily almost anywhere without time-consuming and costly grid expansion measures. The ChargePost features an integrated battery capacity of 201 kilowatt-hours in a compact footprint and enables charging outputs of up to 300 kilowatts or two 150-kilowatt outputs when charging two vehicles in parallel.
