At the Decentralized Energy Supply Pavilion, CHP technology companies will showcase a wide range of projects featuring intelligent high-efficiency plant solutions. The pavilion testifies to the rising popularity of decentralized combined heat and power (CHP) and combined cooling, heat and power (CCHP) solutions in the manufacturing, commerce, trade, real estate and communal building sectors.

A good example is the state-of-the-art plant developed by GASAC Contracting and CCHP manufacturer SOKRATHERM for the Elisabeth Hospital in Essen, Germany. The plant comprises a CCHP unit with an electric output of 405 kW and a thermal output of 538 kW, a natural gas condensing boiler cascade with a total output of approx. 1,725 kW, and two electric pure steam generators for the hospital’s existing steam sterilizers. The plant was well worth the investment for the hospital, from both a financial and environmental perspective. Annual cost savings of some 350,000 euros mean the project will pay for itself in only a few years. At the same time, the new plant is enabling the hospital to cut its carbon emissions by around 1,400 tons each year. For further information (in German only), visit here.

CHP in manufacturing - solutions that break the mold

Intax is Germany’s leading provider of vehicle wrapping and reversible taxi conversion services and operates a very energy intensive climate control system in its production facility. For the past year, Intax’s energy requirement has been met by a CHP plant manufactured by RMB/ENERGIE. Each year, Intax processes 4,500 to 5,000 vehicles from well-known manufacturers, such as Alfa Romeo, Mercedes and Toyota. The nature of the company’s work necessitates an average room temperature of 23°C (73.4°F), with fluctuations no greater than 2°C (3.6°F), as well as a draft and dust-free environment. As part of a revamp of the workshop’s heating and climate control systems, a new CHP plant from RMB/ENERGIE was installed along with an adsorption cooling system combined with a cooling ceiling, climate-controlled ventilation and a heat recovery system, all of which enable the facility to be kept at a near constant temperature, even in the middle of summer. RMB/ENERGIE’s CHP plant is ideal for small to medium-sized industrial operations, not just because of its high overall efficiency of 109.2 percent but also because of its broad variable output range of 10.7 to 20.0 kW (electric) and 29.1 to 46.2 kW (thermal), which enables highly flexible operation.
