French automotive supplier Faurecia has founded a consortium in cooperation with Belgian chemicals corporation Solvay , Airbus’ German subsidiary Premium AEROTEC (the world’s leading supplier for the aircraft industry), and Institut für Textiltechnik Augsburg [Augsburg Institute for Textile Technologies]. Over the next three years, the newly founded “Industry Research Group: Composites for Sustainable Mobility”( IRG CosiMo ) will seek to develop new thermoplastic composites to be used in aircraft cockpits and automobile interiors, as well as innovate new material and process techniques.
At the moment, fiber-reinforced thermoplastics are used in lightweight construction for battery housings, interior elements or seat structures. The consortium also intends to explore new manufacturing processes for large-series production. The project headquarters will be the Technologiezentrum in Augsburg
