First degree program for “Master IT Craftsman” launched
In September 2019, the first students will begin their course of undergraduate studies in IT business management at the Hochschule Weserbergland (HSW), a technical college. The program is intended for students who are already employed. It’s the first program of its kind – offering a degree known as “Master IT Craftsman” – to be initiated in Germany.

“Master IT Craftsmen” are IT professionals who have earned the advanced training certificate “Operative Professional” from the IHK . Private college Hochschule Weserbergland (HSW) is now offering them an accelerated course of studies designed for students who are simultaneously working full-time. It is intended for IT professionals who want to gain academic knowledge and have their previously acquired professional qualifications recognized at the same time. “There are around 5,000 ‘Master IT Craftsmen’ in Germany. Many of them would like to gain more of an academic education without having to put their careers on hold. This course of studies is the ideal way for them to achieve this,” explains Dr. Michael Städler, head of the program.
The program is offered at the Hameln campus and consists of a self-study phase, virtual classes and in-person attendance. After completing four semesters, students receive the Bachelor of Science degree. The cycle begins every September; if credits can be transferred, then the program takes just two years instead of four.
