Jury chairman Matthias Wissmann and BVL board chairman Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Wimmer presented the award in a ceremony at the German Logistics Congress in Berlin. The innovation: In the Bayern Shuttle, DB Cargo combines the speed of block trains with the flexibility of single wagons. In a weekday round trip, steel shipments from voestalpine are combined for three premium manufacturers from the Bavarian automotive industry.
The highlight: High-quality steel scrap is also picked up at each of the three automotive production sites and transported back to the voestalpine steelworks in Linz at night. This not only saves the emissions of idling, but also enables daily delivery and collection at all locations thanks to the clever combination of steel supply and scrap disposal - an environmentally friendly contribution to the circular economy. In total, more than half a million tons are moved annually.
