When does your smart-phone battery let you down? You know the answer: it always happens just when there’s no charging point in sight. It’s Murphy’s Law. For visitors to trade fairs, concerts or festivals however, this annoying phenomenon may soon be a thing of the past. The Düsseldorf Innovation and Science Agency (DIWA) is presenting the SunCrafter, a mobile solar charging station for smartphones and electrical gadgets at major events, at this year’s HANNOVER MESSE.

The SunCrafter passed its beta-test with flying colors last year at a variety of big festivals throughout Germany. The design of the mobile charging station combines sustainability with efficiency, meeting energy demand on the spot with a powerful photovoltaic unit, whilst providing high capacity with more than 500 charging points. Powerful batteries provide reliable service even when the sun is not shining. To ensure the required mobility, the technology is delivered either by truck or trailer, and can thus be positioned easily to supply the required area. The SunCrafter on display at Hannover includes technical improvements on the prototype version, plus NFC wireless technology.
