With the StartGreen Award, the Borderstep Institute for Innovation and Sustainability , an independent and non-profit research organization, honors innovative start-up concepts, startups and companies whose services and products contribute to climate protection and sustainability. In 2018, the prize in the "Startup Concept" category goes to ME Energy from Berlin for a flexible, nationwide charging infrastructure for electric cars that operate without connecting to the electricity grid and thus also in rural regions. In the "Startup" category, Nuventura from Berlin received the award for its innovative power grid switch, which uses air instead of SF6, the strongest known greenhouse gas, and without sacrificing performance. The winner in the "Energy of the Future" category is Solmove from Potsdam, whose photovoltaic modules (PV) can be installed on traffic routes, generate electricity there and, if required, illuminate the road surface or melt the snow on the road surface in winter. As the modules are installed on existing asphalt, surface damage is avoided and the landscape is not disfigured in the process.
