iNES and Oscar on the grid
iNES – nominated for the Hermes Award, the “Oscar of industry” – shows how to transform a conventional low-voltage grid step by step into a smart grid22 Mar 2014
The Hermes Award, one of the most coveted international technology prizes, is presented annually by Deutsche Messe at HANNOVER MESSE. Among the five companies nominated this year is SAG, which is exhibiting its modular, decentralized and autonomous instrumentation and control platform iNES at HANNOVER MESSE 2014.
The power sector is facing huge challenges: it must efficiently integrate new power sources such as PV systems and CHP plants into existing structures, while addressing weather-related fluctuations and the expanding needs of new technologies such as electromobility and heat pumps. With iNES, SAG is showing how to optimally utilize existing grid capacities and limit conventional grid expansion without endangering grid stability. In three stages –station monitoring, grid monitoring and grid automation – iNES can respond to grid demand to prevent surges and dropouts as well as malfunctions.
The iNES research project was launched by the University of Wuppertal, Bilfinger Mauell, Mainova and SAG in 2011 and has been successfully introduced in several test areas since 2012.
