Joint venture opens up electricity market for supermarkets
Solar specialist SMA Solar Technology and energy supplier Danfoss are planning a joint venture intended to pave the way for supermarkets to penetrate the electricity market.
Share
With this joint venture , SMA and Danfoss want to offer supermarket operators an integrated solution that networks cooling and refrigeration technology, photovoltaics, storage technology and electromobility. On this basis, supermarkets should be able to generate their own power, optimize energy consumption and sell excess domestic power or store it in electrical and thermal storage devices. Another conceivable option is to supply power to charging stations – such as for customers’ electric vehicles. The joint venture is currently pending the approval of the cartel office.
This collaborative project between the two energy specialists is a symptom of the fundamental changes taking place in the energy sector, which are redefining the traditional roles of electricity provider and consumer. For companies especially, generating their own power combined with solutions such as energy recovery from conveyor systems or utilizing waste heat from machines can bring enormous economic advantages.
