The German Academic Association for Production Technology (WGP) intends to speed up the transfer-of-knowledge process between universities and the world of business. A new program at its Production Academy offers professionals seminars on everything from lightweight engineering to virtual machining.

All in all, several WGP institutes around Germany are offering 15 seminars over the course of one to two days; the material covered will be oriented toward issues relevant to production companies. In-house training sessions are also possible. Topics include production planning, 3D printing processes, electric motor production and “value stream analysis 4.0”. The seminars will be held at the respective institutes whose research focuses are most relevant. The WGP Production Academy will award certificates for successful completion of the seminars.
As the era of Industry 4.0 continues apace, the general consensus is that advanced professional training and lifelong learning is essential. Many other providers also offer information on industrial production techniques. For example, TÜV Rheinland-Akademie hosts events on machine and plant safety, while the VDI Knowledge Forum trains professionals in subjects such as cold mass forming and casting design.
