Leading Berlin-based 3D printing company Formlabs has recently announced the release of its Resin Pumping System and a new material, Polypropylene Powder. Both innovations are designed to increase the efficiency, versatility and scalability of Formlabs' 3D printing ecosystem. With more than 130,000 printers sold worldwide, the ecosystem is widely used for prototyping and in-house manufacturing. The Resin Pumping System and new material are expected to further advance in-house 3D printing of consumer products, dental applications, industrial and automotive parts, manufacturing prototypes and more. Formlabs will showcase the full ecosystem and newly released solutions at HANNOVER MESSE 2024.

Expanding an already extensive portfolio

Formlabs' versatile ecosystem includes SLA and SLS 3D printers and more than 45 materials used for in-house prototyping and product development, mitigating supply shortages, manufacturing parts for end-use, rapid tooling and more. The Resin Pumping System now presented is the Berlin-based company's answer to the increase in production volumes with 3D printing. It enables autonomous printing operations with reduced unit costs and waste. Formlabs Chief Product Officer Dávid Lakatos explains: "3D printing production is growing steadily, and with the introduction of our Resin Pumping System and Polypropylene Powder, we are taking two big steps towards our mission of providing professional users with all the tools they need to bring their ideas to life in a complete ecosystem."

Lower unit costs with 86 percent less packaging waste

As more and more industries integrate 3D printing into their processes, the Resin Pumping System delivers increased production capacity with less effort, lower material costs and reduced waste. As a plug-and-play accessory for Form 3 and Form 3L printers, the Resin Pumping System offers a replacement for the standard 1-liter cartridges and smoothly supplies five liters of resin to the printer's resin tank, enabling five times longer uninterrupted printing.

Immense advantages in hardware development

Eric Weinhoffer, Senior Hardware Development Specialist at drone manufacturer Skydio, reports: "Skydio has been running its Form 3+ printers non-stop for iteration, achieving immense benefits in hardware development. The resin pumping system has been an asset to me and my team because I no longer have to monitor 1 liter cartridges. At one point, we were running low, so we had to frantically place a last-minute order. The resin pumping system and the 5-liter containers reduce the mental strain for me and keep the printers running."

High-performance material for the switch to in-house production

Polypropylene is the second most widely used commodity plastic in the world and is widely used for consumer products, packaging, automotive parts and more due to its low density, light weight and chemical resistance. Polyproplylene Powder expands the SLS printing portfolio, enabling the printing of products commonly made from polypropylene - such as household appliances, electronics, sports equipment, custom lab equipment, prototypes, manufacturing tools and more - in an optimized, cost-effective process on the Fuse 1+ 30W 3D printer.
