Until now, viewing a full 360-degree panoramic display in real time on a computer screen required costly multiple-lens cameras with dedicated software. A start-up from Leipzig, Germany is revolutionizing 360-degree live streaming with a new, already patented process called videostream360. The four founders of videostream360 were invited by the German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) to participate in its joint stand at HANNOVER MESSE 2014 and demonstrate their real-time video streaming to a wider public.

The software is largely based on conventional technology such as full HD cameras and 360-degree mirror arrays, as well as existing encoding and streaming hardware, to enable interactive panoramic live streaming without costly special technology. This makes videostream360 a low-cost solution with very short set-up time. The application is planned to be available as a browser-based web player as well as a mobile app for smartphones and tablets, and the company supports the player technology with a range of services for professional video streaming. Extensions such as auxiliary software for administration and configuration or source video enhancement are among the projects under development for the product.
