The advantages of integrated spur gearing
According to Schaeffler, more than half of all machining centers are now ordered with automation solutions. The company is now developing special rolling bearings and components for precisely these cases. In particular, the integration of spur gearing in rotary axis bearings should help to save space and costs.

High-precision, particularly rigid rolling bearings from Schaeffler that are perfectly matched to the application are already widely used in machine tools, especially in the main and secondary axes and in the periphery of the machine tool, for example in tool and pallet changers. The high proportion of automation in and around machine tools has now given rise to a new market segment for which the Franconian drive specialists want to develop rolling bearings that are specially tailored to the requirements of this segment.
The first product in this new series of rolling bearings is the axial roller radial needle roller bearing of series YRTA for combined loads. The 'A' stands for automation and thus also defines the main application of this new series. The new rolling bearings do not differ in external dimensions from the familiar YRTC bearings and are available in sizes 150 to 460. However, significant optimizations have been achieved internally by modifying the machining processes on the bearing rings and raceways and by using new needle roller cages for the radial bearing arrangement.
The new YRTAG slewing ring bearings combine the rolling bearing with the customer's spur gear. To achieve this, one bearing ring of the axial bearing is provided with the customer-specific gear teeth. This functional integration saves the customer the laborious task of aligning a separate gear wheel and significantly reduces the space required and the costs. A lower mass moment of inertia allows higher accelerations and, in some cases, a smaller drive motor.
The option of an integrated spur gear is also offered for the YRTC series in sizes 150 to 580 and is called YRTCG. An inductive AMOSIN angle measuring system is also available for these series in both incremental and absolute variants (YRTCMA/MI and YRTCGMA). For large rotary tables with table tops up to 2,000 millimeters in diameter, Schaeffler is expanding its portfolio of the YRTS series upwards by the two sizes 580 and 650. These sizes are also available with the absolute AMOSIN angle measuring system.
