The creation of so-called centers of excellence is being planned to ensure that Europe does not get left behind in research in the field of artificial intelligence. They are intended to establish a European network for dynamic, active development of new and existing AI technologies. In the foreground is research and development in the area of AI for industrial applications. The centers of excellence have the task of bringing together expertise in the areas of supercomputing, the Internet of Things and robotics, and supporting development through the creation of an infrastructure. The project is being financed through the research framework program Horizon 2020. The EU has called on researchers in Europe to come up with concrete approaches for its implementation.

The EU is also intending to establish an online platform for AI “on demand”. The Member States will be able to find resources and AI tools on AI4EU . The project is being funded to the tune of EUR 20 million.
