The Federal Government is thus intensifying the implementation of the artificial intelligence strategy and placing special emphasis on transferring research results into practice. “It is important for small and medium-sized enterprises in particular to actually use and apply artificial intelligence,” explains Minister of Economic Affairs, Peter Altmaier. Almost half of the additional (about 230 million euros) artificial intelligence funding will flow into this transfer from research into practice and be invested in leveraging AI developments in real-life applications. More than 190 million euros will be spent on research and the promotion of young scientists, while about 55 million euros is slated for social dialogue and participation measures, technology assessment, regulatory frameworks and promoting qualification measures. The basis is a concept for the use of the additional funds from the 2019 federal budget. Following the Federal Government’s benchmark resolution, another 500 million euros are slated for the promotion of artificial intelligence in the 2020 budget.
