The Federal Ministry of Economics announcement of the planned funding of competitive and sustainable battery cell production in Germany and Europe was published in the Federal Gazette. The Ministry aims to create a cooperative network to produce the latest generation of battery cells together with other European countries. The plan is to tap into the great value-added potential of this key technology and support the market-based processes that are required to establish competitive battery cell production.
To cover the value-added chain as broadly as possible, from extraction of the resources and electrode materials to actual battery production through to integration of the cells, followed by sustainable and environmentally compatible reuse and disposal, the Federal Ministry of Economics plans to make up to 1 billion euros available. Interested companies and consortiums have until March 15, 2019 to submit project ideas.
