Anca from Romania works as a caregiver in Munich, Sergej from the Czech Republic as a doctor in Lüdenscheid, and Maria is a software developer from Spain working in Dresden. They talk about working and living in Germany, and how they came here, on the homepage of the "Make it in Germany" welcome portal for qualified workers. "Make it in Germany" is presented at the stand of the German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy in the Research & Technology fair at HANNOVER MESSE 2014.

The portal went live in 2012 and has expanded steadily ever since – most recently two new files on education and courses of study were added, and a file on self-employment is planned next. A few videos were also recently added to the "I made it" area. International workers and employers in Germany describe the positive things they have to offer one another in these brief segments which are lively illustrations of living and working in Germany.

The portal offers valuable advice – from a portrait of Germany, to a list of "Five steps to working in Germany" and a job exchange that lists open positions in fields where there is a lack of qualified workers in Germany. The "Quick Check" lets people evaluate their chances of finding employment in Germany. At the fair, the team answers questions about emigration possibilities for skilled workers.

In 2011, the German government adopted a new policy for attracting more international experts to Germany, given the increasing scarcity of skilled workers in some fields. Germany's Economic Affairs and Energy, and Labor and Social Affairs Ministries, and the German Employment Agency (Bundesagentur für Arbeit) are supporting the campaign with a push for skilled workers, including the “Make it in Germany” initiative.
