The white paper “ Influence of IT Security ” is already the third technical article on the topic of safety and security in human-robot collaboration published by Fraunhofer Austria Research GmbH in cooperation with TÜV Austria . The current state of industrial networking and IT security as well as the potential and risks for the application case Cobots are discussed. The presentation is based on the research results of the TU Vienna Pilot Factory Industry 4.0 and practical applications.

The most important result is the integrated assessment of functional and informative hazards developed within the joint research project. Because the investigations, taking the example of collaborative lightweight robots, showed that these “still have massive deficits in terms of IT security” according to Fabian Ranz of Fraunhofer Austria – with significant consequences: Vulnerabilities in information security can reduce functional security, disrupt production operations, and undermine the data security of entire enterprises.
